ANDERSON, IND. – The Defiance College softball team finished their afternoon in Anderson, Indiana in a split with Anderson University. Defiance took game one 4-2 before falling in the night cap 2-1.
Both teams were sluggish to start the afternoon, recording no runs through the first two frames in game one.
Finally, leadoff hitter Jordan Osborne set things into motion in the top of the third with a single dribbler between the third baseman and shortstop. Brooke Gostomsky followed, reaching on a fielder's choice to advance Osborne to third before Mariah Huff blasted a line drive back up the middle, scoring Osborne. Michaela Bauer continued to give the Purple and Gold momentum with a single to right field that would bring around Gostomsky, putting DC up 2-0.
With bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fourth, Anderson would be given a base on balls, allowing a run to come home to cut the DC lead in half. Moments later, the Ravens equalized on a well-placed single to shallow center before surrendering their final out on a ground out to shortstop Haley Patty.
The Yellow Jackets regained the lead an inning later as Kaity Kuhn took advantage of a wild pitch, stealing home, placing DC back up 3-2.
Gostomsky's solo homerun in the top of the seventh was the final nail in the coffin for the Ravens as Defiance sealed the first game 4-2.
The Purple and Gold took the early lead in game two on a lofted Osborne triple deep into right field. She would eventually come home on a RBI double from Kuhn.
But it would be Anderson that would seal the deal in game two. The Ravens retaliated with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie things at one apiece before notching the winning run in the sixth on a RBI single to right field, capping the game 2-1.
The Purple and Gold will now host HCAC front-runner Transylvania University on Thursday, April 26 at the Sal Hench Field. First pitch will be delivered at 3:30 PM.
