Purple and Gold Splits the Day with DeSales and Westminster
Team Stats
KISSIMMEE, Florida – The Defiance College softball team ended day two of the Sunkissed Games in a split, taking game one 5-2 over DeSales University before falling 8-0 to Westminster College.
DC started game one with an imposing defensive intensity, holding the Bulldogs to just two hits through the first four innings while recording five hits of their own. Kaity Kuhn put the Yellow Jackets on the board first thanks to a Mariah Huff single that put her in scoring position followed by Emma Perry's RBI missile to center field.
In the fifth, Defiance came to life offensively, recording a pair of runs from Kuhn and Jessica Mello to put them up 3-0. Behind Sarah Kaya in the circle, the Yellow Jackets would escape a bases loaded situation unscathed before tallying a second set of runs in the sixth by Jackie Hartman and Jordan Osborne. The Bulldogs would stage a comeback attempt in the seventh inning but it would be too little too late as only one run would score before Defiance captured the 5-2 victory.
In game two, the Purple and Gold were blanked 8-0 by Westminster. The score remained empty throughout the first two innings and it wasn't until the bottom of the third that the Titans caught fire, notching five runs on six hits. Struggling to find an offensive groove, DC would go three-up, three-down in both the fourth and fifth innings while Westminster added a pair of runs in inning five as well as an insurance run in the fifth that would retire the game early.
The Yellow Jackets return to the field for a double header tomorrow morning, Tuesday, March 6 to face Penn St. New Kinsington at 9:00 AM and Alfred University at 11:15 AM.
