Heidelberg Takes Two from Defiance
TIFFIN, OHIO – The Defiance College softball team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Heidelberg University and dropped both games to the Student Princes.

TIFFIN, OHIO – The Defiance College softball team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Heidelberg University and dropped both games to the Student Princes.
In game one, the Student Princes (14-2) took control of the game after a six-run second inning. The Yellow Jackets (10-12) had opportunities to plate a run, but came up empty-handed after leaving two runners stranded in the fourth.
Heidelberg added one run in the bottom of the fourth and finalized the win 8-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
Despite zero runs scored, the Yellow Jackets recorded 10 hits. Jordan Osborne (Deleware/Rutherford B. Hayes), Emily Denhard (Troy, Mich. /Kolbe Academy), Makayla McAvoy (Mt. Gilead) and Megan Pleskovic (Strongsville) all recorded a multi-hit game.
At pitcher, sophomore Sarah Kaya (Lorain/Clearview) pitched the complete game and recorded the loss. She gave up eight runs on 10 hits and struck out two batters.
In the nightcap, Defiance platted the first run of the game in the top of the first after Osborne crossed home after an error from the defense. The Student Princes answered back with two runs of their own to take back the lead, 2-1. Defiance was held scoreless thru the top of the sixth, while Heidelberg tacked on five runs of their own. The final run from Defiance came off of the bat of sophomore Kaity Kuhn (Celina) after producing a RBI-single. Heidelberg held DC in the bottom of the seventh to finalize the 7-2 victory in favor of the home team.
The Purple and Gold recorded six hits with Osborne recording a second multi-hit game. Osborne went two-of-four with one run scored.
In the circle, freshman Jamie Kimbler (Huber Heights/Wayne and sophomore Sydni Smith (Jackson, Mich. /Lumen Christi) shared the time. Kimbler got the start and was the pitcher of record after giving up six runs off of seven hits in the four and one-third innings pitched. Smith pitched one and two-third innings and gave up one run off of one hit.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 2 when they host Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology at Sal Hench Field. The first game of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
