Softball Has Three Players Recognized by HCAC
GREENWOOD, IND. -- Three members of the Defiance College softball team have been named to the 2015 All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Teams for their efforts this season.

Sophomore Megan Warren (Mason) earned second-team accolades, whle freshman Sarah Kaya (Lorain/Clearview) was tabbed honorable mention. Joining Warren and Kaya was senior Brittany Shough (DeGraff/Riverside) as an All-Sportsmanship Team honoree.
Warren earned her first All-Conference Award following a season in which she started all 34 games behind the plate for the Yellow Jackets at catcher. She was the team's top hitter with a .314 batting average (32-of-102). Her 32 hits were tied for most on the team and her 102 at-bats were second most. Warren recorded seven multi-hiit games, including a season-high three hits on three occasions. Warren also led the team in home runs (two), doubles (12) and runs batted in (16). In addition, she hit one triple and scored 11 runs which put her in a tie for second on the team. Defensively, Warren maintained a .976 fielding percentage with 127 putouts and six assists.
Kaya had a solid first season as a pitcher for the Purple and Gold. She was the team's main hurler making 24 appearances, including 16 starts and 10 complete games. She led the team in every statistical category finishing the year with a 2.62 earned run average and posted five victories. Kaya tallied 93 strikeouts, which rank eighth most in a single season, in 115.0 innings. Her 93 "K's" this season were fourth best in the HCAC and her 115.0 innings ranked third highest amongst conference pitchers.
Shough played in all 34 games and started 33. She batted .272 at the plate (22-of-81) in her final season and hit four doubles, scored 11 runs and had nine RBI. Her 11 runs scored tied her with Warren for second most this season. She was also amongst the team leaders in stolen bases with six. Defensively, Shough had a .978 fielding percentage with 38 putouts and six assists as an outfielder.
For her career, Shough played in 130 games, including 111 starts, and had a .256 lifetime batting average (74-of-289). She recorded one triple, seven doubles, 32 runs scored and 28 RBI. She also had four stolen bases in eight career attempts and had a .943 career fielding percentage with 148 putouts, 16 assists and committed just 10 errors.
