DC drops both games in Tiffin

In the first game, DC's bats couldn't get going as the Yellow Jackets (6-21) fell 7-0. In the second game the bats started making a little more noise, but DC fell in the end 12-4.
Makayla McAvoy (Mt. Gilead, Ohio / Mt. Gilead) recorded the first hit on the day for DC with two outs in the top of the first. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, the Yellow Jackets couldn't make contact and struck out to go silently.
In the circle the first game for the Yellow Jackets was Kailea Holbrook (Defiance, Ohio / Defiance) who looked very commanding through the first two innings. She gave up only two hits in the first two frames.
In the top of the second, DC was able to threaten again. Holbrook singled to right with one out. After another out, Brittany Shough (DeGraff, Ohio / Riverside) moved Holbrook on a single of her own. The Yellow Jackets stranded the two runners, once again threatening but not causing any damage.
The bottom of the third proved to be the difference in the game, as Heidelberg (21-11) scored six runs on five hits to take the commanding 6-0 lead.
DC would not be able to manage another hit until the seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets were able to threaten the shutout as Sandra Hubler (Berea, Ohio / Berea) reached by way of error with no outs in the inning. Tori Plummer (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg) would pinch run for Hubler and take second on a wild pitch. Ashley Gordon (Carleton, Mich. / Allen Park Cabrini) would pinch hit for DC and move Plummer to third on a single to center. With runners on the corners, the Yellow Jackets were unable to get them moving and fell in game one by a score of 7-0.
In game two Heidelberg would pick up where it left off, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
DC would go quiet in the first two innings and Lauren Dicke (Lima, Ohio / Lima Shawnee) would hold Heidelberg to just one hit in the second to set up a 2-0 score in favor of the home team going into the third.
The Yellow Jackets' bats would come alive in the top of the third, starting with Gordon. She singled to center and brought up Hubler with one on and nobody out. Hubler would go to sacrifice Gordon over but ended up picking getting a single in the process.
Megan Pleskovic (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) would then do her job nicely, laying down the sacrifice bunt to advance the runners into scoring position.
After another DC out, Megan Warren (Mason, Ohio / Mason) would come up with a clutch hit for DC. With two outs and two on, Warren would double down the line scoring both Hubler and Gordon. With the big hit, DC tied up the score 2-2 heading into the bottom of the third.
Then, just like in game one, Heidelberg would score a punishing six runs in the bottom of the third. This time it gave the home squad an 8-2 advantage.
DC would not quit, scoring another run in the top of the fourth. Macy Ferrall (St. Marys, Ohio / Memorial) would walk with one out in the inning. Shough would follow suit, walking as the very next batter and putting two on with just one out.
After a line out from DC, Hubler would deliver another hit for the Yellow Jackets to load up the bases. Pleskovic would show great patience at the plate, drawing the walk and the RBI. The score stood at 8-3 after three.
Four more runs in the home half of the fourth would threaten to end the game early unless the Yellow Jackets could find some offense. Heidelberg would lead 12-3 after four.
Needing two runs, Warren would lead off the fifth with her second double of the game, giving DC hope to keep the game alive. McAvoy would then single two batters later and move Warren over to third with just one out.
Shough would come to the plate two batters later with runners still on the corners and two outs in the inning. She would single to left field, scoring Warren and moving the important runner to second.
DC was unable to find another hit, ending the game 12-4 after five innings.
McAvoy, Shough, Gordon, Warren, and Hubler would all record two hits on the day for DC. McAvoy, Shough, and Gordon had a hit in both games while Warren and Hubler had two each in game two.
Warren would lead DC in RBI's on the day, batting in two in the second game. She also had two doubles to lead the Yellow Jackets in the category as well.
