Miller’s Stellar Weekend Performance Earns HCAC Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Junior Katie Miller has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week after posting superb numbers over four games against Hanover and Franklin. This is the first time the junior has received the award.
Miller hit a tie-breaking two-run homerun to give the Jackets a 5-3 lead in the top of the seventh at Franklin on Saturday to cap off a spectacular weekend.
The Archbold native posted a batting average of .571 by going 8-14 in the four conference games on Friday and Saturday. Of the eight hits, three were homeruns and three were doubles, giving the junior a remarkable slugging percentage of 1.429.
Miller also doubled her RBI output on the season, as she batted in seven runs in Defiance's last three games. After the weekend performance, Miller now leads the team in homeruns, doubles, runs batted in, slugging percentage and total bases. Through eight games, the junior has a .481 batting average with a 1.111 slugging percentage in HCAC action.
Miller and the Yellow Jackets are back on the diamond on Tuesday, April 10, as the Jackets host HCAC rival Bluffton University for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
