GREENWOOD, Ind. – Shauna Bowers was selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, after leading DC to a 3-1 record for the week with two wins and a save. The HCAC Pitcher of the Week award is the second of Bowers' career.
Bowers claimed her first win of the week in DC's 5-3 victory against HCAC rival, Bluffton University, on Wednesday. She surrendered just one earned run on seven hits against the Beavers' high-powered offense to match her previous career-high with six wins on the season.
Bowers made its seven wins for the season in her next outing, when she tallied a career-best 11 strikeouts in route to her third complete-game shutout victory of the season. DC won the game, 6-0, before proceeding to complete the series sweep in game two of the doubleheader, when Bowers entered in a relief role and held Hanover scoreless through the last two and two thirds innings.
For the week, Bowers posted a 0.36 earned run average with 20 strikeouts through 19.2 innings of work. The Delphos Jefferson product currently ranks fourth in the HCAC in wins this season, and boasts the second-lowest earned run average in the conference.
The DC softball team will host its last set of home games of the season on Wednesday, April 20, when Manchester College (14-18; 5-5 HCAC) comes to town for doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
