DC Splits in Second Day at Rebel Spring Games, Moves to 3-3

ORLANDO, Fla. – Defiance dropped a 5-2 decision to Muskingum University in game one, but bounced back with an eight-inning 6-5 victory over Wittenberg University in its second contest  to stay at .500 this season, and improve to 3-1 at the Rebel Spring Games.

The Jackets held a 2-0 lead over Muskingum in the second inning of its 3:00 p.m. tilt with the Muskies, after Katie Miller reached on an error, Stephanie Esquibel knocked a single up the middle, and Macy Ferrall drew a walk to load the bases for DC's hottest hitter. Tasha Stucke recorded her second hit in as many innings with a two-run shot to left field, giving DC the early advantage.

The two teams would swap zeroes in the third inning before Muskingum evened things up with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Defiance sat Muskingum's first two batters in the fifth inning down without any damage, but Jendy Weppler followed with a single through the right side that started a two-out rally for the Muskies, who went on to post three runs on four hits in the frame. That was the difference, as DC went scoreless over the last two innings in the 5-2 loss.

In game two of their doubleheader, the Yellow Jackets experienced their first extra inning contest of the season, and came out a winner with a 6-5 decision over Wittenberg. The statistics for game two have not yet been made available, and will be posted as soon as possible.

The Yellow Jackets will take the day off tomorrow, before returning to action on Wednesday, March 9, for a pre-noon doubleheader against Culver-Stockton College and Waynesburg University. The games are scheduled to begin at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. respectively.
