GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference named Kelly Schnipke the Pitcher of the Week for April 18-24, after she posted a 2-0 record and allowed no earned runs on the week in DC's wins over Adrian College and Mount St. Joseph.
Schnipke went the distance in DC's extra-innings victory over Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday, April 17, holding the Lions high-powered offense to just seven hits and one walk in the game. In her next outing, Schnipke held an Adrian Bulldogs team, which entered the game averaging 6.8 runs per contest, scoreless as Defiance ran away with a 7-0 victory.
The junior slinger got off to a rough start this season, but has now found her rhythm, and has watched her ERA gradually decline for nine-consecutive games since March 27. Schnipke leads the Yellow Jackets' staff with a 7-5 record on the season, and has pitched a complete game in all seven of those victories.
The Defiance College softball team will wrap up its 2010 campaign this week with a doubleheader at Rose-Hulman on Tuesday (13-11, 8-4 HCAC), before returning home to host Manchester (19-16-1, 7-5 HCAC) on Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 pm in the final home game of the season.
