ANGOLA, Ind. – The Defiance College softball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm on Wednesday, March 24, managing just one run in two games against Trine University. The offensive woes resulted in two losses, dropping DC to 10-4 on the season.
The Yellow Jackets entered the doubleheader with an offense averaging over 8.3 runs per game, but managed just one hit in their six-inning loss against TU's ace, Andi Gasco, in the first contest. The loss marked the first time this season the team has failed to record a run.
DC's Kelly Schnipke pitched a solid game, holding the Lady Thunder scoreless through the first three frames, but gave up a leadoff homerun in the fourth inning that opened up the flood gates for TU's offense, which score eight-straight runs to close out the game.
In the second contest, Defiance took the early lead, posting a run in the first inning as Tasha Stucke led off with a walk and Katie Miller hit her 14th RBI of the season to bring Stucke around to score. The Thunder however would come back to tie the game in the fourth inning, and posted six runs in the fifth frame to claim the victory.
The Yellow Jackets will open up conference competition on Saturday, March 27, when they head to Anderson, Ind., for a doubleheader against the Ravens (7-5). The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
