Yellow Jackets Split in First Day in Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Yellow Jackets went one and one on Sunday, in their first day of competition in Orlando, Fla. DC suffered a 7-2 loss to the hands of Marietta College in their first game, before bouncing back to trounce Waynesburg College, 11-0, and move to 3-1 on the season.

DC got off to a promising start in their match against Marietta, with Katelyn Samples recording a leadoff single and then advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Aarika Davis. Tasha Stucke then came through with an RBI that put the Jackets up, 1-0, in the top of the first. However Marietta would bounce back with a big first inning of their own, recording four runs on five hits. Kelly Schnipke suffered her first loss of the year for DC after battling through two tough innings before Shauna Bowers came in to finish the game.
The Jackets got a five-inning shutout by Brittany Gow in their win over Waynesburg, as the sophomore allowed just two hits and recorded five strikeouts in the victory. Gow's performance was backed up by DC's best offensive showing of the year, which saw Stucke record two hits, including one run and three RBI. Marah Robinson recorded a hit in each of her three at bats, while Kaycee Butt was a perfect 2-2 at the plate to go along with three RBI.
The team will continue competition on Monday with a 3:00 p.m. tilt against Wittenberg University, followed by a 5:00 p.m. matchup with Eastern Mennonite University.
