Bushman Named HCAC Hitter of the Week
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Melanie Bushman hit .857 with three doubles and six runs driven in to lead Defiance to a perfect 3-0 mark on the week. For her efforts, Bushman has been named the HCAC Hitter of the Week.

The senior first baseman was instrumental in DC's sweep of Heidelberg, collecting five hits, three doubles and four RBI in the doubleheader. She went three-for-three in the opener, helping Defiance jump out to an early lead with a two-run double to right center. Bushman followed up that performance with two-hit, two-RBI effort in the nightcap, a 4-1 victory by the Jackets.
The Harrison, Ohio native also went one-for-one with a pair of RBI and three free passes in DC's 9-1 rout of NCAA Div. II opponent, Findlay.
Bushman is currently leading Defiance with a .366 batting average and 15 runs batted in. The 2006 All-HCAC performer ranks in the top-five in the conference in six different statistical categories.
Defiance (10-5) will be back in action on Wednesday, March 25, when it travels to Adrian College for a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
