Men’s Cross Country Places First at Yellow Jacket Open

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The men's cross country team claimed the top-three individual spots at the Yellow Jacket Open on Saturday, recording 22 points as a team to finish first overall at home for the first time on record. Goshen College placed second with 33 total points.

DC's Hayden Krick tied the course record, and improved his time from the 2009 DC Invitational by 1:50, as he claimed the first collegiate individual title in his young career with a time of 27:44. The 19-second cushion Krick had over the rest of the field must have slowed him down a bit, because his 1:50 improvement over last year's time was actually one second less than the team average of 1:51.

Justin Perkins claimed the number two spot for Defiance with a time of 28:03, while DC's Seth Bidlack came in third overall at 28:05. Freshman runners, Joe Davis and Madison Murphy, rounded out the scoring for Defiance with times of 29:10 and 29:13 respectively to finish in the seventh and ninth-place spots.

The cross country team will get one week off before traveling to Erie, Pa. to compete in the Penn-State Behrend Meet on Saturday, September 18.
