OBERLIN, Ohio – The men's harriers recorded 724 points to place 26th out of 31 teams at the Oberlin College Regional Rumble on Saturday. Several runners posted their best times of the season for Defiance, led by Justin Perkins, who came in 61st overall with a season-best time of 26:23.7 on the 8k course.
Perkins, who has run in only three races this season, beat his time from one week ago by 1:37. His strong performance was a great sign for the Yellow Jackets' harriers, who will need another strong showing from Perkins in two weeks when they compete in the HCAC Championships.
Joe Davis came in second for the Yellow Jackets for the second time this season, as he crossed the line in 27:21.5, setting a new personal-record for his young collegiate career. Fellow freshman, Hayden Krick, came in 25 second later to place third for Defiance.
Madison Murphy and Aaron Fraley rounded out the top-five finishers for Defiance, as they came in at 28:02.6 and 28:55.3 respectively. Both of the times represented new season-bests for their respective runners. Matt Rohlf, Keiquan Blackmon and Troy Secrest finished in the six through eight spots for DC, with Rohlf and Blackmon both posting their best times of the season as well.
The Yellow Jackets have two weeks to prepare for the HCAC Championships, which will take place on Saturday, October 30, at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky. The championship meet is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
