Men's Track & Field Dominates at the Spartan Invitational
CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Defiance College men's track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon.
CLEVELAND, OHIO - The Defiance College men's track and field team competed at the Spartan Invitational hosted by Case Western Reserve University on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets were led on the day by sophomore Vince Jackson (Mason) winning the high jump with a leap of 1.95 meters. Freshman Percy Daniel (Warren, Mich./Sterling Heights) took second in the event with a jump of 1.78 meters.
Senior Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) also had a strong day as he won the discus throw with a new season best distance of 43.65 meters. Senior Justin Bergquist (Cincinnati/Northwest) took sixth in the event with a distance of 36.42 meters, a new personal best.
Senior James Baranoski, Jr. (Bloomingdale, Mich.) also captured a first place finish in the meet winning the shot put with a toss of 13.55 meters. Bergquist claimed third in the event, while junior Kaleb Tyree (Tiffin/Columbian) finished fifth with a distance of 11.57 meters.
Senior Andrew Fahler (Wellington) led the way for the Purple and Gold in the hammer throw as he claimed a second place finish with a toss of 49.06 meters, a new season best. Castillo took fourth in the event, while Baranoski, Jr. finished sixth with a throw of 41.49 meters.
Junior Cody Drumm-Turner 9Homer, Mich.) won the men's triple jump with a distance of 11.77 meters.
On the track, Drumm-Turner claimed a sixth place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.90, while sophomore Gabriel Caris (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) crossed the finish line in seventh place with a time of 11.99.
Caris also had success in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.47, while senior Brandon Zartman (Paulding/Wayne Trace) finished fourth in a time of 24.13.
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, April 26 aas they compete at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
