Track and Field Claim USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors
DEFIANCE, OHIO – Senior track and field athlete, Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) and the Defiance College women’s team garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA and NAIA All-Academic honors.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – Senior track and field athlete, Josh Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) and the Defiance College women's team garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA and NAIA All-Academic honors.
Petro finished his career at Defiance as a two-time Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference weight throw champion as well as a First Team All-HCAC honoree for indoor track.
He finished his senior campaign ranked 18th in the country in the weight throw, qualified for All-Ohio, and was named All-Midwest Region. Petro also captured two HCAC Athlete of the Week honors.
The Florida native currently ranks among the top in DC history, ranking third in the weight throw, fourth in the hammer and ninth in the shot put and discus.
The women's track and field team was one of 291 Division III teams to earn the honor and just one of 185 female teams to achieve this feat.
The women's team finished the season with a combined 3.48 grade point average under the guidance of head coach Ken Ciolek.
