Trio of Yellow Jackets Place at All-Ohio
WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- Three Defiance College men's track and field athletes competed in, and placed at, the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University on Saturday.
WESTERVILLE, OHIO -- Three Defiance College men's track and field athletes competed in, and placed at, the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets scored 11 points, good enough for 15th place out of 18 scoring teams.
A pair of weight throwers led Defiance, as senior Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) placed in the third position with a top throw of 17.56 meters (57 feet, 7.5 inches). Junior Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz.) also placed in the event, as his throw of 15.72 meters (51 feet, 7 inches) was good enough for the seventh position.
Castillo also qualified in the shot put, as his toss of 13.41 meters (44 feet) placed him in the 13th spot.
Freshman Vince Jackson (Mason) also qualified in a pair of events. In the high jump, Jackson bowed out of the competition with a clearance of 1.92 meters (6 feet, 3.5 inches), giving him a sixth place finish. Jackson fouled out of competition in the long jump.
Defiance will return to competition on Saturday, Feb. 17 as they travel to Anderson University for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The meet is set to start at 1 p.m.
