Men Compete in Day One at HCAC Championships
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College men's track and field team competed in day one of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University.
ANDERSON, IND. -- The Defiance College men's track and field team competed in day one of the HCAC Championships at Anderson (Ind.) University.
The Yellow Jackets ended the first day of competition that was shortened due to weather, with five points and is currently in sixth place of seven teams. Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology is the overall leader in the team standings with 60 points. Manchester (Ind.) University is second at 18 points and host school Anderson is third with 16 points.
The highlight of the first day came in the discus throw with sophomore Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) placing fourth overall with a best throw of 144' 9.00". In addition, senior Nick Rath (Defiance) also placed in the top-10, taking ninth place following a best throw of 130' 11.00". Sophomore Andrew Fahler (Wellington) placed in the top-20 in 14th place with a throw of 116' 9.00".
The top performance in the running events for DC was turned in by sophomore Brandon Zartman (Paulding) who competed in the 400-meter dash prelims and placed 15th overall in a time of 55.52 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets will return to compete tomorrow in day two of the HCAC Championships at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind. The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
