DC Men Compete at All-Ohio Championships
DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's track and field team traveled to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the annual outdoor All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
DELAWARE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's track and field team traveled to Delaware, Ohio to compete in the annual outdoor All-Ohio Outdoor Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
The Yellow Jackets totaled four points to place 17th of 17 teams. Host school Ohio Wesleyan won the team title with 134.5 points, followed by Otterbein University in second with 109.5 points. Case Western Reserve University rounded out the top three with 76 points.
Freshman Vincent Lamonte (Norwalk) turned in the top performance for DC in the running events with a 19th-place showing in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash. Lamonte crossed the finish line in a time of 11.34 seconds.
In the field events, sophomore Javier Castillo (Nogales, Ariz./Nogales) placed in the top-10 in the shot put by finishing eighth with a distance of 45' 1.00". He also went on to record a top-10 effort in two other events including a ninth-place finish in the discus throw with a best toss of 133' 10.00" and 10th in the hammer throw following a mark of 151' 7.00".
Junior Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla./The Villages) also competed in the hammer and placed sixth overall with a distance of 162' 3.00".
"We had over 10 personal bests today with a small squad and competing kids in limited events," said Head Coach Ken Ciolek. "The All-Ohio championships is a very high level meet and our kids responded great posting some great times and marks."
The team will return to competition on Friday, Apr. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind at the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology Twilight Meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
