Spinks Leads Defiance at Trine (Ind.)
ANGOLA, IND. – The Defiance College men’s track and field team traveled to Angola, Ind. to Trine (Ind.) University to compete in the unscored Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic and produced many positive results.
ANGOLA, IND. – The Defiance College men's track and field team traveled to Angola, Ind. to Trine (Ind.) University to compete in the unscored Don and Riley Zimmer Indoor Classic and produced many positive results.
Defiance was led by freshman Darius Spinks (Washington, Penn. /Washington) who placed first in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and long jump. Spinks posted a time of 7.08 seconds in the 60-meter dash, and 22.90 seconds in the 200-meter dash. He also jumped the distance of 6.88 meters in the long jump event. Sophomore LaVauntez Hall (East Cleaveland/Shaw) also competed in the long jump and finished sixth with a distance of 6.09 meters.
Sophomore Jacob Rindler (St. Henry) placed fourth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:26.22. Fellow Yellow Jacket senior Sebastian Rue (Defiance/Ayersville) followed close behind Rindler crossing the line eighth with a time of 1:29.26.
Senior Andrew Senecal (North Baltimore) ran the 800-meter run in a time of 2:06.43 for a seventh place finish. Sophomore Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) finished the one-mile run in 4:37.71 to cross the line sixth. Sophomore Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) competed in the 3,000-meter run and finished ninth with a time of 9:39.26.
Freshman Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds The 4x400 relay team consisting of Hall, sophomore John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. /Sault Area), Senecal and Schwarzbek finished seventh with a time of 3:43.66.
Rounding out the field events, senior Ryan Johnston (Defiance/Ayersville) finished seventh in pole vault, after clearing the height of 3.65 meters. Senior Jacob Rodriguez threw the weight a distance of 13.98 meters for an fifth place finish and sophomore Zach Kasper (Wyandotte, Mich. /Roosevelt) finished ninth with a distance of 12.42 meters. Freshmen Shawn Deese (Canton, Mich. /Canton) and Joshua Petro (Ocala, Fla. /The Villages) finished seventh and tenth, respectively in the shot put. Deese threw for a distance of 12.58 meters, while Petro threw 12.05 meters.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Granville to compete in the All-Ohio Multi-Event Meet and to Ada to compete at Ohio Northern University. The ONU meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. while All-Ohio is still to be determined.
