Records Fall in Ada
ADA, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s track and field team traveled to Ada to compete at Ohio Northern University in the Joe Banks Invitational and finished with a team score of 37 points, placing eighth overall.
ADA, OHIO – The Defiance College men's track and field team traveled to Ada to compete at Ohio Northern University in the Joe Banks Invitational and finished with a team score of 37 points, placing eighth overall.
Defiance was led by freshman Darius Spinks (Washington, Penn. /Washington) who finished second in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and fourth in the long jump. Spinks posted a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash, and 22.72 seconds in the 200-meter dash. He also jumped the distance of 22' 00.25" in the long jump event. Spinks broke two long standing records with his efforts in the 60-meter dash (2010) and the 200-meter dash (1997).
Freshman Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) placed sixth in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:17.28.
Sophomore Jacob Rindler (St. Henry) placed fourth in the 800-meter run, crossing the line at the 2:01.99 minute mark. Fellow Yellow Jacket, sophomore Colin Krick (Hicksville/Antwerp Local) placed eighth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9.31.08.
The 4x400 relay team consisting of sophomore LaVauntez Hall (East Cleaveland/Shaw), sophomore John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. /Sault Area), senior Andrew Senecal (North Baltimore) and Rindler finished eighth with a time of 3:40.21.
The 4x200 relay team consisting of Spinks, Hall, Seeley and senior Ryan Johnston (Defiance/Ayersville) finished sixth with a time of 1:36.55.
Competing in the weight throw, senior Jacob Rodriquez (Ligonier, Ind. /West Noble) threw the weight a distance of 45' 11.25" for an eighth-place finish.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, Feb. 13 when they host the Defiance Open. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
