Defiance Battles In Dick Small Meet
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s track and field team hosted the 20th Annual Dick Small Meet and many Yellow Jackets showed valiant efforts in the unscored meet.
DEFIANCE, OHIO – The Defiance College men's track and field team hosted the 20th Annual Dick Small Meet and many Yellow Jackets showed valiant efforts in the unscored meet.
Defiance was led by freshman Darius Spinks (Washington, Pa. /Washington) who had a top-five finish in both the 100-meter dash and the long jump. In the 100-meter dash, Spinks finished fifth with a time of 11.00 seconds. Spinks then competed in the long jump and finished third with a 22' 9" leap.
Senior Sebastian Rue (Defiance/Ayersville) and sophomore Jacob Rindler (St. Henry) battled each other for a fourth and fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash. Rue finished with a time of 53.20 seconds, while Rindler finished with a time of 53.28 seconds.
The battle for fourth and fifth place proved to have similar outcomes in the 1,500 meter run. Sophomore Clayton Bruggeman (St. Henry) and senior Andrew Senecal (North Baltimore) finished one after the other, with times of 4:25.63 and 4:28.78, respectively.
The 4x100 relay team consisting of freshman LaVauntez Hall (East Cleveland/Shaw), sophomore John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. /Sault Area), freshman Aaron Schwarzbek (Sherwood/Fairview) and Spinks finished second after crossing the line in 45.49 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 11 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for the All-Ohio DIII Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
