DC picks up two first place finishes in NW Ohio Invitational
DEFIANCE, Ohio – DC placed seven individuals in top 10 in the Northwest Ohio Invitational. There were two individuals that also won their events in Findlay, Ohio in the first indoor meet of 2014.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – DC placed seven individuals in top 10 in the Northwest Ohio Invitational. There were two individuals that also won their events in Findlay, Ohio in the first indoor meet of 2014.
The Yellow Jackets had their best success in the 300-meter dash as four runners finished in the top 10. George Roth (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville) led the way with his 5th place finish. He finished with a time of 38.04 just in front of the next three runners, all of which were Yellow Jackets. Next to cross the line was John Seeley (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. / Sault Area) with a time of 38.78. After Seeley was Aaron Kersten (Linden, Mich. / Linden) who finished with a time of 38.95. Rounding out the four in 8th place was Ryan Johnston (Defiance, Ohio / Ayersville). He crossed the line with a 39.34.
DC also saw success in the 800-meter run. Troy Parret (Cedarville, Ohio / Cedarville) and Madison Murphy (Westerville, Ohio / Thomas Washington) finished in first place and third place, respectively. Parret was the only one at the meet to break the two minute mark, crossing at 1:59.46. Murphy finished not even a second later at 2:00.27 to take home the third place spot.
Joe Davis (Ontario, Ohio / Ontario) got DC's only other win with his performance in the one mile run. Crossing the line at 8:50.15, Davis won the event by more than a second.
Johnston was the only Yellow Jacket to place inside the top 10 in any field event for DC. In the pole vault, he vaulted 3.70 meters on his way to a 9th place finish.
The Yellow Jackets will be in action again Saturday, January 25 for their home meet. The Defiance College Invitational will begin at 11 a.m.
