After Postema's historic display in the hammer throw yesterday, the Tinora High product had one event to focus on and he didn't disappoint. After setting the conference record in the hammer on Friday, Postema hurled a 56.27 meter discus toss for first place. The throw was also a new HCAC record and it bested the DC record in which he set last season. In all, Postema came away from the weekend competition a perfect 3-for-3 by being champion in the hammer, shot put and discus.
His outing was followed closely by that of another Yellow Jacket. Davis completed the championships with one of his best weekends of the 2013 campaign. After winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase on day one, the Ontario, Ohio, native clocked in a first-place time of 4:03.06 in the 1,500-meter run. He then notched a mark of 15:52.14 in the 5,000 for third place.
In that same event, Davis followed senior teammate Hayden Krick who grabbed the top spot. Krick ran a personal-best time of 15:15.60 to add another first-place finish to DC's day-two showing.
Finally, the Purple and Gold's stud sophomore Troy Parrett grabbed the fourth and final top-finish of Saturday's team performance. The Cedarville High product ran a 1:56.38 for first in the 800-meter run and then earned third in the 1,500 with a time of 4:06.56. Keeping up with Parrett in the 800 was junior Madison Murphy. The two went step-for-step but Murphy finished second behind his teammate by half of a second.
In team events, DC's quartet of Parrett, Murphy, George Roth and Ryan Johnston put together a mark of 3:23.58 and come away with fifth place.
For final team standings, the Yellow Jacket men's track and field team earned third place at the HCAC Championships with 121 points. Rose-Hulman finished first at the championships with 202 and earned its six-straight outdoor conference title. Taking second at the meet was Franklin with 142 points.
DC will next be in action on Wednesday, May 8, when it travels up to Michigan for the Hillsdale Classic. The meet will be the first on its slate of competition to make qualifying marks for nationals. Action at the classic is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
