While there, junior Joe Davis grabbed the top spot on the DC all-time list in the 5,000-meter run and sophomore Troy Parrett set the new school mark in the 800. [Results]
Running against top competition in the region, Davis picked up his pace and wrapped up the 5,000 in a sixth-place time of 14:52.91. The mark was just shy of 15 seconds faster than the previous record he established at the All-Ohio Championships earlier in the season. Also running in the event was senior Hayden Krick, who finished in 14th place at 15:22.78.
For the Yellow Jackets other record setter, Parrett finally bested his 2012 mark that topped the DC all-time list with a blazing 800 time of 1:52.49. He placed fourth in the event and was only one second off the leader. The Cedarville High products run jolted him up to 17th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Div. III rankings for the event with the top-20 qualifying for nationals. Junior Madison Murphy joined in on the 800-meter run and came in first in his heat and 15th overall with a time 1:57.07.
Each of the two Purple and Gold members to set a new school record also ran times that stand as the fastest in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference this year.
The final competitor at the meet was senior thrower Tom Postema. Taking part in his second meet in two days, the Defiance, Ohio, native still managed a strong outing with a hammer throw toss of 62.15 meters. The mark notched him fifth place and was still further than any Div. III competitor has thrown in the 2013 campaign. Winning the event was three-time Olympian A.G. Kruger with a jaw dropping hurl of 76.28 m. Postema also competed in the discus and recorded a throw of 41.07 for 12th.
The next action for the DC men's track and field team will be Monday, May 13, when Postema competes at the Ron Altoff Invitational in Delaware, Ohio. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
