Men’s Track Finishes Third at HCAC Championships
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The men’s track and field team tallied 116 points at the HCAC Championships on Saturday, May 1, to finish in third place for the third-consecutive year. Defiance got a well-rounded team performance in the meet, highlighted by Seth Bidlack’s 800-meter dash conference title.

Bidlack's performance marks the second-straight season the junior runner has posted his best 800-meter dash time of the season at the conference championship meet. His personal-record time of 1:57.65 was just a split second ahead of his teammate, Aaron Bronson, who came in second with a personal-best time of 1:57.72.
Austin Trivett personally accounted for 36 points in the meet to lead the Yellow Jackets for the second-straight season. After placing first in the pole vault on Friday, Trivett went on to claim second place in both the high jump and javelin throw, and fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles and long jump.
DC's relay teams were a strong point for the Yellow Jackets, with both the 4x100 team and the 4x400 team posting their best times of the season. The 4x100 meter relay team of Brian Downs, Aaron Demecs, Dan Hardin-Wallace and Ryan Perry crossed the line in 43.95 seconds to place third at the meet and rank fourth in the DC record books.
The 4x400 relay team of Bidlack, Bronson, Josh Herron and Aaron Demecs will go down as the fourth-fastest team in school history as well, but placed second at the meet with a season-best time of 3:25.23.
One day after claiming second place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Justin Perkins set a new school record in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:39.47, which was good enough for fifth place at the meet.
Josh Beaverson led the Jackets in the throwing events. The sophomore hurler took fourth place in the hammer throw with a toss of 146.04 feet, and placed seventh in the discus with a heave of 130-08.
Next on the team's schedule is the Yellow Jacket Multi-Event, which will be held in Defiance on Friday and Saturday, May 7-8. The meet is set to kick off on Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
