NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Defiance College track and field team sent a handful of athletes to compete in the Gregory Invitational at North Central College on Thursday and Friday, in what was the final meet of the season before the NCAA Div. III National Championships next week.
Highlighting the meet for Defiance was Aaron Demecs, who tied the school-record he posted earlier this season with a time of 49.51 in the 400-meter dash. Demecs' time was good enough to take fifth place out of 27 runners in the event.
DC's Austin Trivett came up just four inches shy of his personal-record in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-08.00 feet to finish eighth at the meet.
Other DC athletes who made the trip to Illinois included Seth Bidlack, who posted a time of 1:59.55 in the 800-meter dash, and Justin Perkins, who completed the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:38.96.
The NCAA Div. III National Championships will be held next week on the campus of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. The three-day event will kick-off on Thursday, May 27, at 12:00 p.m., and run through Saturday afternoon.
