DC Competes at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Defiance College track and field team sent a handful of athletes to compete in Indiana University's Billy Hayes Invitational this weekend. The Jackets had a pair of individuals record top-six finishes, as Blake Witherspoon and Brad Zarembski each scored in the meet.

Witherspoon paced DC with a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash, crossing the line in 22.00. Zarembski cleared 6-06.75 to tie for fourth place in the high jump, before falling to sixth based on number of jumps.

Justin Perkins continued his success in the steeplechase, finishing ninth with a personal-best time of 9:43.68. Amanda Tooley and Samantha Higdon also participated in the event, recording tosses of 142-02 and 130-08 in the hammer throw.

The Jackets will be back in action this weekend, when they compete in the Gregory Invitational on the campus of North Central College.
