DC Blanked in Conference Match-up with Earlham
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team dropped their home match with Earlham College this afternoon at the George Smart Center, falling 8-0.
The Yellow Jackets opened the match with three straight losses in the doubles flights. First doubles partners Adam Swisher and Jared Schnee fell 8-1 before duo Nathan Principe and Eline Widman dropped second doubles 8-2. At No. 3, Ring Lardner and Micaiah Cox were rolled 8-0.
The Quakers continued to dominate in the singles action, earning victories in the rest of the matches. At first singles, Swisher was defeated 6-2, 6-2 while Schnee fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Widman was upset 6-1, 6-0 at third singles as Principe and Lardner fell at fifth and sixth singles 6-1, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively. Cox rounded out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 loss at sixth singles.
This drops the Purple and Gold to 3-14 on the season and 1-3 in HCAC conference play. Defiance looks to rebound as they travel for away contests with Transylvania University at 11:00 AM followed by a match Franklin College at 5:00 PM.
