Defiance Drops Thriller to Cardinals
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team was narrowly edged this afternoon, falling 5-4 to Concordia University in the Smart Center.
Concordia gained a slight advantage in the doubles flights, taking two of the three. At first doubles, Adam Swisher and Jared Schnee were defeated 9-8 (7-4 tiebreak) before Nathan Principe and Eline Widman won second doubles 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, partners Micaiah Cox and Henry Brown were routed 8-1.
DC started out hot against the Cardinals in singles action, winning the first three flights. Swisher won first singles 4-6, 6-1 before Schnee rolled his opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Widman went on to take third singles 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, Principe was taken down 6-0 in set one before evening the score with a win in the second set. He would ultimately fall 10-5 in the tiebreak. Fourth singles went to the Cardinals as Ring Lardner was dropped 7-5, 6-2. The final set would also fall in favor of CUAA as Brown lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-10.
The men are back on the courts this Saturday, March 31, as they travel to take on Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. First serve is set for 11:00 AM.
