HILTON HEAD, S. C. – The Defiance College men's tennis team wrapped up day four at the Spring Tennis Fest held in Hilton Head, South Carolina with a pair of losses.
In the first match, DC fell 7-2 to Shenandoah University. The Hornets started out strong, sweeping the doubles flights 3-0. At first doubles, Eline Widman and Jared Schnee were routed 8-1 while Adam Swisher and Henry Brown fell 8-2 at second doubles. Nathan Principe and Ring Lardner took the loss at third doubles, falling 8-4.
In singles play, the Yellow Jackets continued to struggle, winning just two of the six flights. At first singles, Swisher was defeated 6-1, 6-1 while Schnee dropped his second singles match 6-3, 6-2. Widman would fall 6-1 at fourth third singles before completing the comeback victory, winning 7-6 (4-0 tiebreak) and 10-8. Both Principe and Lardner would fall at fourth and fifth singles, 6-4, 6-4, and 6-0, 6-4 respectively. Brown captured the other singles win for the Purple and Gold, taking sixth singles 6-3, 7-5.
The game two, the Yellow Jackets were knocked off by DeSales University, 7-2. DC was again swept in the doubles flights. Swisher and Schnee dropped their match at first doubles 9-7 while Widman and Principe fell 9-8 at second singles. Brown and Lardner were routed 8-2 at No. 3.
Swisher put up a battle at first singles, falling 7-5 before winning the second set 6-3. He would ultimately drop the contest 10-8 in the third set. At second singles, Schnee defeated his opponent 7-5, 7-6 (7-4 tie break) while Widman also claimed a victory at third singles, 1-6, 6-1, 10-7. They would record the only two Purple and Gold wins against the Bulldogs as Principe (6-4, 7-6, (7-3)), Lardner (6-0, 6-1) and Brown (6-1, 6-1) would fall at fourth, fifth and sixth singles respectively.
Defiance returns to the courts, facing Drew University in their final match of the tournament. First serve is set for 11:30 AM.
