Defiance Falls to Hanover in Conference Tourney
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- The men's tennis team had a rematch against Hanover (Ind.) College in the first-round in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and lost to the Panthers, 5-1.

Senior James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) and junior Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) obtained the only win for the Jackets at first doubles and defeated their opponents, 8-5.
The remaining doubles matches were both won by Hanover to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matched. DC senior duo of Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) and Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) teammed up at third doubles and won five games against their opponents, but fell by the overall final of 8-5. Senior Tory Savage (Byan) and junior Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) lost, 8-2, in their second doubles match.
In the singles competition, the Jackets lost the first three matches to give Hanover the necessary five team points to claim the overall victory. At first singles for Defianace, DeMeo played a close first set, but was edged out, 6-4. The second set was also won by his Panther opponent, 6-1, to claim the match.
Swisher and Savage played at second and third singles, both losing to their opponents. Swisher captured a combined three games from his competition, falling by the final scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Savage droped his matchup at third singles by identical scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
The Jackets end the 2016-17 campaign with their loss to Hanover and conclude the season with a 9-13 overall mark.
