Defiance Falls to Rose-Hulman (Ind.)
DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Defiance College men's tennis team were shut out by Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 9-0, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference dual match at the Dix Tennis Courts.

Defiance quickly fell behind 3-0 as Rose-Hulman swept all three doubles matches. Senior James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) and junior Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) had the closest doubles match of the afternoon at first doubles, but fell short, 8-6.
Senior Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) and junior Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) also played a close match at third doubles, claiming five games, but ultimately fell on the losing end of an 8-5 outcome.
Senior duo Tory Savage (Bryan) and Daniel Fabelo (Hamilton/Badin) rounded out the doubles competition at the second doubles spot and won one game with the final score going in favor of Rose-Hulman, 8-1.
In the singles competition, the Fightin' Engineers won all six matchups. Kurtz won the most games amongst the team at his fifth singles matchup and began the match with a contested first set which was eventually won by his opponent, 6-4. In the second set, Kurtz captured a game in a 6-1 defeat as his opponent claimed the overall match.
Savage played in the third singles competition, and collected two games against his opponent, but falling by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
DeMeo in first singles, Widman in the fourth slot, and senior Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) playing sixth singles, all had scores that mirrored one another. They all won a game in the first set of play, but lost their overall matches by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Swisher fell behind 2-0 in the first set of his match at second singles before retiring giving his Rose-Hulman opponent the win.
The Jackets will return to play on Tuesday, Apr. 25 when they host Concordia University in a non-conference dual match. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
