Defiance Wins Against Manchester

The Yellow Jackets took two out of three matches in the doubles competition to grab an early overall match lead. Senior James DeMeo (Oregon) and junior Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) put a point on the board for DC in the first doubles. They allowed only three points against, winning 8-3 overall.
Junior Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) and senior Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) were the second win of the afternoon at third doubles. They played a close match, and came through with an 8-5 win.
The Jackets dominated against the Spartans in singles, taking five-of-six matchups. DeMeo earned a win at first singles shutting down his opponent. He allowed only one point against, winning by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Swisher won the action in second singles, allowing only three points on the board. He won the first set, 6-1, and then prevailed in the second, 6-2, to complete the straight-set victory.
Savage added another tick to the Jacket scoreboard as he held his opponent scoreless in the first set of his third singles match, 6-0. He played a closer second set with his opponent taking four game, but Savage came out as the winner with the final score of 6-4.
The next Jacket to record a win was Widman at fourth singles. They went into bonus play in the first set, with Widman coming out on top by a 7-5 advantage. Widman then coasted through the second set, winning 6-2 to take the match.
Senior Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) rounded out the victories for the Jackets. He allowed three points against in the first set, winning 6-3. The second round went into extended play, with Height winning by two points, 7-5.
The Yellow Jackets will conclude their three-match home stretch as they host HCAC opponent Transylvania (Ky.) University on Saturday, Apr. 15. The match is scheduled for noon at the Dix Tennis Courts.
