Men's Tennis Finishes Trip With a Win Against Roanoke
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Defiance College men's tennis team wrapped up their Spring Training Fest today against Roanoke (Pa.) College with a win of 6-3.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Defiance College men's tennis team wrapped up their Spring Training Fest today against Roanoke (Pa.) College with a win of 6-3.
Defiance (3-5) took a lead from the start, winning two out of three doubles sets. Senior James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) and junior Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) captured their first doubles match with a final score of 8-4. Senior Tory Savage (Bryan) and senior Daniel Fabelo (Hamilton/Badin) fell short 8-3, still putting up a tough match. Senior Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) and junior Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) won their third doubles match with the closest match of the day. The duo came out on top winning 8-5.
The Yellow Jackets continued to play well in the singles matches, taking four out of six for the win. DaMeo and Swisher respectively won their first and second singles matches. DaMeo won his first set 6-2 and the second set 6-3. Swisher held his opponent scoreless in the first set 6-0, and won the second 6-3.
Widman held his opponent scoreless the first set winning 6-0, and went into extra play the second set. Widman fought hard for his win, taking the second set 7-5. Senior Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) was the final Jacket to earn a win in the match today, coming out on top 6-1 both sets.
Savage went into extended play the first set, losing 5-7, just unable to hold on for the win. He then lost the second set 1-6. Kurtz put up three points on the board, losing 6-2 and 6-1.
The Jackets will return to play on Tuesday, Mar. 21 when they host Olivet (Mich.) College at 4 p.m.
