Yellow Jacket Men's Tennis Falls to Baldwin Wallace
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Defiance College men's tennis team began their spring training in Hilton Head, S.C. against non-conference opponent Baldwin Wallace University and fell to BW, 8-1.

In doubles play, senior James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) and junior Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) teammed up at first doubles and captured three games during the match, but fell short overall, 8-3. Seniors Troy Savage (Bryan) and Daniel Fabelo (Hamilton/Badin) combined at second doubles, falling in their respective match, 8-2, and the duo of junior Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) along with senior Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) put up a tough fight against their opponents, but ended up losing 8-5.
The lone point for Defiance (1-3) came at second singles as Swisher came away with a three-set victory with the scores of 7-4, 3-6 and 12-10.
At the remaining singles matches, DeMeo fell in straight sets at number one singles despite a close first set, 6-3, and then fell, 6-0, in the final set. Savage was able to put up one point each set of his third singles match, losing 6-1 in both sets. Widman began his fourth singles match putting up two points, 6-2, but was held scoreless in the second set, 6-0.
At fifth singles, Kurtz dropped the first set, 6-0, and fell in the second set, 6-1. Senior Nathan Height (Wabash, Ind./Wabash) rounded out singles play at sixth singles and won a combined four games, but would lose the overall match by the scores of 6-1 and 6-3.
The Jackets will return to play tomorrow afternoon (Monday, Mar. 6) for day two of their spring training in Hilton Head, S.C. as they take on Elizabethtown (P.a.) College. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
