Defiance Stings the Student Princes
TIFFIN, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s tennis team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Heidelberg University and defeated the Student Princes by a match score of 6-3.
TIFFIN, OHIO – The Defiance College men's tennis team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio to face non-conference opponent Heidelberg University and defeated the Student Princes by a match score of 6-3.
The Yellow Jackets (8-10) began doubles play by winning two out of three matches to take a 2-1 lead over Heidelberg (5-10) going into singles play. The first doubles team of James Demeo (Oregon/Clay) and Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich. /Bedford) won 8-3 and the second doubles team of Tory Savage (Bryan) and Brian Kurtz (Sandusky/Perkins) defeated their opponent 8-0.
In singles play, Demeo, Swisher, Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) and Kurtz all won and secured the team victory over Heidelberg, 6-3. Demeo played the first singles spot and won 6-2, 7-5. Swisher was at the second spot and won 6-3, 6-2, while Widman played the fourth slot and came out on top by a final score of 6-4, 6-4. Rounding out the wins was Kurtz at the fifth singles spot who defeated his opponent, 6-0, 6-1.
DC will conclude their regular-season play on Saturday, Apr. 30 in Franklin, Ind. when they face Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin (Ind.) College. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
