Yellow Jackets Sting the Pioneers
MARIETTA, OHIO – The Defiance College men’s tennis team traveled to Marietta, Ohio for a non-conference match against Marietta College and defeated the Pioneers, 5-2.
MARIETTA, OHIO – The Defiance College men's tennis team traveled to Marietta, Ohio for a non-conference match against Marietta College and defeated the Pioneers, 5-2.
Defiance (5-5) took an early 2-1 lead over Marietta (8-8) after doubles play. The first doubles team of Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich. /Bedford) and Tory Savage (Bryan) defeated their opponent 8-4. The second doubles team of James Demeo (Oregon/Clay) and Eline Widman (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) won 8-6 over their Pioneer foe.
The Yellow Jackets finalized the 5-2 victory after first, second and third singles all won their matches. Demeo played first and won 6-1, 7-5. Swisher was at the second slot and battled to a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) victory. The final win of the day came from Savage at third singles with a match score of 6-2, 6-4.
Defiance will return to action on Monday, Mar. 28 when they host Concordia (Mich.) University in non-conference play. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
