Yellow Jackets Fall Short Against Fighting Scots

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – A shift in scheduling saw the Defiance College men's tennis team fall to Gordon (Mass.) College in the team's second match of the Spring Tennis Fest. The Yellow Jackets fell 8-1 as they were unable to overcome an overpowering Fighting Scots lineup.
The sole victory for DC (3-3) came at the hands of third singles senior Justin Walker (Wilson, N.C. /Hunt). Walker pulled away 6-4 in a tight first set before pulling away with a 6-1 second set victory to clinch the point. With the win, Walker now holds a 4-2 record individually and 1-1 at the third singles position.
Sophomore James DeMeo (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Adam Swisher (Bedford, Mich./Bedford) pushed for comeback victories at second and fifth singles
before they both fell in a third set tiebreaker. DeMeo's score finished at 0-6, 7-5, (1-10) moving his record at second singles to 3-3. Swisher's singles record at fifth singles now stands at 2-4.
The Yellow Jackets are set to wrap up their trip on Saturday, Mar. 14 against Salem State (Mass.) University with an early start of 8 a.m. The match will be Salem State's first of the season.
