Defiance Falls to Grizzlies in Sunday HCAC Opener
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket men’s tennis team played its third match in the last two days on Sunday, as Defiance got its first taste of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action this season.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Yellow Jacket men's tennis team played its third match in the last two days on Sunday, as Defiance got its first taste of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action this season. Defiance hosted Franklin, who came away with a 6-3 victory.
The Purple and Gold battled with the Grizzlies in singles action. Defiance split the six singles matches against Franklin going 3-3. DC's Mike Ross and Cord Speelman each won in three sets at the one and three positions respectively. Senior Craig Bills was the other Jacket to record a singles win, as the four singles player won a tight straight-set victory by a score of 6-4, 7-6.
While the Jackets battled Franklin in singles play, the Grizzlies won the match in doubles action. Franklin swept all three doubles matches to come away with the 6-3 victory.
With the loss the Jackets now have an overall record of 1-2 this season and begin the HCAC with a mark of 0-1. The Jackets have the next week off, as the team prepares for its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., where DC will open up play against Ohio Wesleyan on Tuesday, March 12 at 8:30 a.m.
