Pioneers Too Much For Yellow Jackets in HCAC Match
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s tennis team hosted the Transylvania Pioneers from Lexington, Ky. on Saturday morning in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team hosted the Transylvania Pioneers from Lexington, Ky. on Saturday morning in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. Transylvania kept its HCAC record unblemished on the season with a 6-3 win over the Jackets.
DC's number three doubles duo of senior Austin Gray and freshman Justin Walker pushed their winning streak to five matches to begin day for the Jackets. The tandem won by a score of 8-4, however this was the only match Defiance won in doubles play as it trailed 2-1 heading into singles action.
The Purple and Gold was victorious at the numbers four and six positions in singles. Freshman Ryan Nelson won at the four spot by a score of 6-4, 6-4. With the win, Nelson is now 4-3 in HCAC matches and 15-6 on the season in singles play. Walker recorded his second HCAC triumph of the season, winning in a three-setter with scores of 6-2, 4-6, 6-0. The four DC defeats were all in straight sets.
The Yellow Jackets are back on the courts on Wednesday, April 25 as they travel to face HCAC rival Bluffton University. The match is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
