ANDERSON, Ind. – Senior number one singles player Trevor Ault tied his older brother, Tyler for the most victories by any DC men's tennis player with 102 wins in all competitions. Unfortunately for the Jackets, the win was not enough as Defiance fell to Anderson 5-4.
The Purple and Gold fell behind 2-1 early after winning one of the three doubles positions. Senior Austin Gray and freshman Justin Walker easily disposed of the Ravens at the three spot with a score of 8-1. The win moves the tandem's record at the three spot to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Defiance was able to split the six singles matches with Anderson going 3-3 but was unable to get the one additional win it desperately needed. Junior Craig Bills, sophomore Cord Speelman and Ault each won in straight sets. Of the three matches DC lost in singles play, two went three sets, and one was decided in a tiebreaker.
With the individual wins, Speelman and Bills now have three match winning streaks in singles play, and Ault extended his win streak to four consecutive matches.
Ault will seek to become the winningest player in DC men's tennis history in the final home match of his career against Transylvania University on the morning of Saturday, April 21. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
