DEFIANCE, Ohio – Senior Trevor Ault became the second ever Yellow Jacket men's tennis player to eclipse the career 100-win mark on Saturday afternoon with victories in singles and doubles. Defiance defeated Central State in the match by a score of 9-0 for the second time this season.
Ault came into the match with 99 career total victories in singles and doubles combined. The senior teamed up with freshman Ryan Nelson to reach the milestone with an 8-3 win at the one doubles position. The victory marks the tandems third straight, all coming within the last week. Junior Craig Bills and sophomore Cord Speelman blanked their opponents at the two spot, and Austin Gray and Justin Walker won at three doubles.
The Yellow Jackets continued their dominating play in the singles matches, as DC won at every position. No Jacket dropped more than five games in any of the eight-game pro-sets. Nelson, Bills and Walker each won in dominating fashion with scores of 8-0. Gray won by a score of 8-5 at two singles and Speelman recorded an 8-4 win at three singles.
Ault won convincingly by a score of 8-1. The win gives Ault 101 for his career and places the senior one win away from tying the all-time DC record of 102, which is held by Ault's older brother and former Jacket standout, Tyler Ault.
DC will next take the courts on Wednesday, April 18 when the squad travels to Anderson for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference clash. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
