DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team shutout the Central State Marauders in a mid-season, non-conference matchup. DC won by a final score of 9-0, and did not drop a set in any match.
The Jackets were able to grab control of the match from the get-go, as they swept all three doubles positions. DC combined to beat the Marauders by match scores of 24-4. Senior Trevor Ault and freshman Ryan Nelson won their match 8-3, and at two doubles, junior Craig Bills and sophomore Cord Speelman teamed up for a 8-1 victory. Senior Austin Gay and freshman Justin Walker won their second match in as many days at the three doubles spot as they blanked Central State with a score of 8-0.
The Purple and Gold used the momentum from doubles play into singles action. No Yellow Jacket gave up more than seven games in any match as DC claimed wins at all six spots. Impressive performances were turned in by Ault, Speelman, Bills and Walker, who each only lost two games or less.
The win is the fourth of the season for the Yellow Jackets, who are back in action on Saturday, April 7 as the squad travels to Rose-Hulman for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The match is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
