Nelson Extends Streak Despite Loss to Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Yellow Jackets' men's tennis team traveled to Tiffin, Ohio on Monday afternoon to take on Heidelberg University. Defiance was unable to capture the road victory and fell by a score of 7-2.
The Purple and Gold were unable to claim any wins in doubles play, as Heidelberg won all three matches. Senior Austin Gray and freshman Justin Walker had the closest doubles match, as the pair was narrowly defeated 8-6.
In singles play, the Jackets were able to grab wins at the one singles and four singles positions. Senior Trevor Ault earned a hard fought straight-set victory at the one spot, winning by scores of 7-6, 6-4.
Freshman Ryan Nelson was the other victor for DC. Nelson won a two set dogfight at four singles 7-6, 7-5. The win extends the freshman's current win streak to six matches, the longest of any Yellow Jacket this season. The singles victory also gives Nelson a sparkling record of 9-4.
Defiance's next match is on Wednesday, April 4 as the Jackets host Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Hanover College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
