Lions Claw Past Yellow Jackets in Conference Clash
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men’s tennis team hosted its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home match of the season at the newly renovated Dix Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Defiance College men's tennis team hosted its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference home match of the season at the newly renovated Dix Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon. The Jackets came up short against Mount St. Joseph, losing by a score of 6-3.
DC managed to only grab one of the three doubles matches, as the Jackets' Austin Gray and Justin Walker won by a narrow margin of 8-6 at three doubles. Craig Bills and Cord Speelman lost a heartbreaker by a score of 9-7 at the two doubles position.
In singles play, the Purple and Gold claimed two straight-set victories at three singles and four singles. Speelman cruised at the three spot by a score of 6-1, 6-2 at three, and freshman Ryan Nelson won by a score of 6-1, 7-5 at four. Freshman Justin Walker took his match the distance before coming up short, as he lost the first set 3-6, fought back to win the second 6-3 and lost the final set 6-2. The loss drops the Jackets' HCAC record to 0-2.
The Yellow Jackets will be back on the courts on Wednesday, April 4 as they host a HCAC clash with Earlham College. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
