INDIANAPOLIS – The Defiance College men's tennis team saw its 2011 season come to an end on Saturday, with a 5-1 defeat to top-seeded Transylvania in the opening round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
Trevor Ault and Cord Speelman got things started for the Yellow Jackets by teaming up to pull out a thrilling, 9-8, win over Will Palmer and Tyler Pewitt at No. 1 doubles. The seventh win of the year for DC's top doubles tandem proved to be the only victory for Defiance however, as the Pioneers rallied for the 5-1 win.
Despite ending with a 4-20 overall clip, the future looks bright for the Defiance College men's tennis program, as brand new indoor and resurfaced outdoor courts will await the Jackets for the 2011-2012 year. DC is also set to return all but one letterwinner from this season's squad and will return its top player from the 2009-2010 year in the form of Will Draur.
