DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College lost a 5-4 decision against Manchester on Thursday at the Dix Tennis Facility. Trevor Ault and Cord Speelman each led the Jackets with a pair of victories, but it was not enough to get DC past the Spartans.
The match started well for the Purple and Gold, as Ault teamed with Speelman for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Mike Ross and Craig Bills then scored an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles to send Defiance into singles competition with a 2-1 advantage.
The lead would not hold however, as Ault's 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 1 and Speelman's 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 5 were the only two wins Defiance would secure in singles play.
Defiance (1-10, 0-2 HCAC) is slated to return to the courts on Friday, for a non-conference tilt with Adrian at 4:00 pm.
