DEFIANCE, Ohio - A windy Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field saw the Defiance College men's soccer team host Anderson University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. Despite their best efforts, neither side could find the back of the net as they drew the affair 0-0.
A strong offensive first half from the visiting Ravens saw Harrison Hirth (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer) have plenty of work to do. Anderson tallied 12 shots in the first period of action, forcing Hirth into a handful of saves, as he recorded his second shutout of the season. After the first forty-five minutes, the battling sides were scoreless going into the half.
The Yellow Jacket offense picked up in the second half as they outshot their opponent. Adam Ordel (Lima, Ohio / Elida) and Chase Stiner (St. Joseph, Ill. / St. Joseph Ogden) lead the Purple and Gold offense, each with four shots just off frame. Defiance had opportunities to score in the second half, but the Anderson defense did not allow it, leaving the score still deadlocked at 0-0 as regulation time ran out.
In both overtimes, strong defenses prevailed as each side created opportunities to score. Neither team was able to put a ball in frame, leaving the final tally at a 0-0 draw after 110 minutes of play.
The tie brings the men's record to 7-6-2 on the season, and 2-1-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th, as they play host to Transylvania University. The start time is slated for 3:30 pm.
