Yellow Jackets Lost Battle to Geneva

DEFIANCE, OHIO- The Defiance College men's soccer team welcomed Geneva College to Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field on Saturday afternoon, for a non-conference matchup. A late second-half goal for the Golden Tornadoes gave the away side the 1-0 win.

The sides were battling all 90 minutes; both teams were unable to score in the first half, despite multiple opportunities. Sophomore, Harrison Hirth (Lapeer, Mich. / Lapeer) got his fifth start in the net for the Yellow Jackets, recording six saves on seven shots on goal.

Freshman, Noah Svanberg (Grand Rapids, Ohio / Otsego) created an offensive push in the second half tallying two shots on goal that just missed finding the back of the net.

Yellow Jacket defender, Bennet Pack (Glasgow, Ky. / Glasgow), stopped the Golden Tornado offense multiple times throughout the match. Pack played all 90 minutes  and recorded two headers on goal that were saved by the Geneva goalkeeper.

Defiance was able to battle to a 0-0 scoreline until the 82nd minute when Geneva scored to take a 1-0 lead. The Purple and Gold were unable to respond, suffering a loss on the day.

The defeat drops Defiance's record to 2-5-1. The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, September 25th as the travel to Thiel College for a 6:00 pm kickoff.
